The Law of Love

Broadly conceived, the law of love has been a motivational force in the shaping of culture within both the ideological and behavioral dimensions of life and a substantive theme in the by-products of almost every form of human activity, religion, the arts, literature, music, dance, drama, philosophy and psychology. It is, perhaps, safe to say that the idea of love has left a wider and more indelible imprint upon the development of human culture in all its aspects than any other single notion.

People often say that they feel love. But how often do people claim that they understand love? If the law of  love is not understood, then who knows whether what they feel is love rather than something else, something less?

the law of Love is currently defined as a strong affection for, or attachment or devotion to, a person or persons; a strong liking for or interest in something. Words most closely describing this type of friendly, loving feeling include the Greek philia, the Latin delictio, and sneha and priyata in Sanskrit.

You shall love the lord your God

In Matthew 22:36–40, a Pharisee lawyer asked Jesus “which is the great commandment in the Law?” Jesus responded, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.

Law Of LoveLove also is depicted as a strong, usually passionate, affection for a person of the opposite sex. This type of love, which often is reduced to carnal desire for one’s own pleasure and gratification, is encompassed by the words eros in Greek, amor in Latin and kama in Sanskrit.

1 John 4:16

God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him

Finally, the theological definition of love is divided into three aspects:

1. Gods benevolent concern for mankind

2. Man’s devout attachment to God

3. The feeling of benevolence and brotherhood that people should have for one another

In the first definition of love, three key components emerge: Affection, attachment and devotion.

Fond or tender feelings of affection, a manifestation of love, can be witnessed in humanity and throughout nature in relationships involving parents and offspring.

The bonding power of love is evinced by humanity’s groupings such as family, culture, tribe, society, nation, and religion. Animals, plants and minerals that group into families, herds, flocks, communities and associations attest to the cohesive quality of love.

The law of Loves devotional aspect manifests in every act in which something is given up or in which a living being directs itself to a purpose, activity or person outside of itself.

Whether applied to secular or spiritual affairs, this sacrificial element of love constitutes a cosmic law unto itself, the divine law of sacrifice. Herein lies a clue to the power and the mystery of true love.

Possibly the simplest yet complete definition of love is this; the enactment of all of Gods divine laws in unison to perfection.

From this viewpoint it is easy to associate the attachment component of love with the divine laws of oneness, integration and attraction. Loves component of affection, whether it leads to impassioned emotion resulting in sexual exchange, or to great works of art, is linked to the divine law of creation.

Strong affection for or attachment or devotion to Spirit, being a person or persons, an organization or a cause, or to life in any or all of nature’s kingdoms originates in cosmic law as Principle Itself.

Each single act of true love embodies elements drawn from all of Spirits laws: oneness, individuality, polarity, creation, integration, transmutation, sacrifice, equality, give-and-take, free will, noninterference, order, cause and effect, reincarnation, growth and evolution, attraction and repulsion, righteousness, example, balance and harmony, compensation, life, and perfection.
